5. Dubai

I know I’m biased as I live here, but this cosmopolitan Emirate in the Middle East is unbelievably safe for solo females. It’s not just about the shopping malls either as there are gorgeous beaches, rooftops with amazing views, dancing fountains, futuristic museums and a stunning marina. And you don’t feel awkward being here solo.
Venture outside of the city for a true Bedouin experience with fire shows, camel rides and ATVing across sand dunes. Or take a tour to Abu Dhabi, a neighbouring Emirate to see the region’s own Louvre and the stunning Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. There is so much to see here. * Read: Solo Travel in Dubai
6. Faroe Islands
7. Hungary
Types of Girl about the Globe – City & Sightseeing, Wellness, Party GatG
Think of Hungary and Budapest may be the only destination that comes to mind. There is more to this country than the capital but if you only have time for one place here, Budapest definitely won’t disappoint. This famous city on the Danube River has everything and possibly even more that you’ll ever need in a city break.
It’s ideal for solos interested in history, spas, shopping, eating out, sightseeing and nightlife. There’s even an island once known as the ‘Isle of the Rabbits’ attached to the mainland if you need some time out. With nightclubs now offering electronic parties in spas, it’s perfect for those who love to party.
9. Japan
Types of Girl about the Globe – Culture, History, Islands GatG
I visited Japan for the first time this year and loved the country. It’s amazing for solo travellers and is probably most known for Mount Fuji, the highest peak in the country. This active volcano is not only an inspiration for many artists but it’s also a place of pilgrimage, although you can just see it from afar if you don’t fancy hiking it.
Then there are the islands in the Yaeyama archipelago, and Ishigaki – Japan’s premier beach destination with clear blue waters. Visit Hiroshima, a city that has recovered from the atomic bomb, or Kamakura – a seaside resort with a relaxed vibe and a huge bronze Buddha amongst its temples and shrines.
Takayama is one of the best-preserved old towns in Japan where you can experience the rural side of the country. You can’t miss enchanting Tohoku either – home to idyllic mountains and more of Japan’s zen temples. But the main reason to come here is of course Tokyo, Japan’s crazy capital with a fast-paced way of life. Where tall skyscrapers meet historic Asian temples (don’t forget the cat cafes either). From ancient temples to traditional villages steeped in history, there is more to Japan than meets the eye. * Read: Solo Travel in Japan
10. New Mexico
Types of Girl about the Globe – History, Nature GatG
New Mexico is a fantastic place to visit because it has a mix of cool history and beautiful nature. Santa Fe is a city known for its adobe architecture and vibrant arts scene. Stroll through the historic Plaza and explore the Palace of the Governors. Venture to Taos, a charming town surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and visit the UNESCO-listed Taos Pueblo for a glimpse into Native American history.
The mesmerizing landscapes of the White Sands National Park, with its vast gypsum dunes, offer a unique experience. Every year, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta fills the sky with colourful hot air balloons. Make sure not to miss ancient Native American sites such as Chaco Canyon.
New Mexico’s warm hospitality, unique blend of cultures, and stunning scenery make it an ideal solo travel destination. * Read: Solo Travel in New Mexico
11. Namibia
Types of Girl about the Globe – Nature, Wildlife GatG
If you’re planning to visit Africa this year, one country that should definitely be on your travel wish list is Namibia. The scenery here is stunning. The country is a mix of German towns, wildlife and otherworldly landscapes of Sossusvlei, where towering red sand dunes meet blue sky. Etosha National Park is a must see for wildlife, while Damaraland has ancient rock art and stunning desert scenery.
You can paraglide over sand dunes, see shipwrecks along the Skeleton Coast, and witness the world’s second largest canyon (Fish Canyon) after the Grand Canyon in the U.S. You may prefer to come here on an overland camping tour where you can really experience the surreal landscapes and wake up under the stars. * Read: Solo Travel in Namibia
12. The Philippines

The Philippines should definitely be on your list. This tropical paradise in Southeast Asia has stunning beaches, a vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. Boasting over 7,000 islands, the archipelago offers pristine beaches with crystal-clear waters, like the world-famous Boracay and Palawan, where vibrant coral reefs await exploration. The warmth of the Filipino people, known for their genuine friendliness, adds a unique charm to the experience.
Manila, the capital, is a bustling metropolis blending modernity with historical sites like Intramuros, a walled city dating back to Spanish colonial times. The Chocolate Hills in Bohol, an otherworldly landscape of perfectly cone-shaped hills, and the Banaue Rice Terraces, carved into the mountains by indigenous tribes, showcase the country’s natural and cultural wonders.
Don’t miss the vibrant festivals, such as the Ati-Atihan and Sinulog, where the streets come alive with colorful costumes and lively parades. With its diverse attractions and rich cultural tapestry, the Philippines is perfect for solos seeking tropical beauty, beaches and genuine warmth. * Read: Solo Travel in The Philippines
13. Poland
Types of Girl about the Globe – City & Sightseeing, History GatG
If you’re looking for a budget destination, Poland is a great country to visit and Krakow is one of my favourite cities in Europe. It’s safe, a budget destination and there is so much to see and do whether you are into history, or just want to explore the salt mine and marvel at crystal salt chandeliers and sculptures.
Learn more about the history of Krakow in the historic Jewish Quarter. See the fusion of architectural styles of Wawel Castle: people-watch in Market Square, the heart of Krakow Old Town: see the Barbican, the remaining gatehouse of the old medieval city: and listen to the buskers at St Florian’s Gate.
Go underground and explore the chambers and chapels of Wieliczka Salt Mine, explore the Royal Castle in Warsaw, and learn about life under Nazi rule and the Uprising at Warsaw Rising Museum. Or learn more about the sombre history of the largest concentration camp at Auschwitz.
If you’re a Budget Girl about the Globe, a Dark Tourism GatG or History GatG, Poland should be on your wish list. Make sure to visit Warsaw and go skiing here too. * Read more: Places To See in Poland
14. Scotland
Types of Girl about the Globe – Culture, History, Nature, Whisky GatG
Scotland is absolutely stunning. This country in the UK has amazing landscapes and Edinburgh is steeped in history and traditions. Not only are the Scots friendly but they are surrounded by beautiful nature.
The iconic Scottish Highlands boast majestic mountains, shimmering lochs, and ancient castles like Eilean Donan. The Isle of Skye, a gem off Scotland’s west coast, offers dramatic cliffs and fairy-tale landscapes. And you can’t miss the legend of Loch Ness or the mystical Callanish Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis.
You don’t have to be completely solo either as there are fun tour companies to take you throughout the country stopping at whisky factories and the Isle of Skye.Scotland promises lochs, whisky trails, and plenty of kilts, and if you’re a solo traveller, it’s really friendly too! * Read more: Solo Travel in Scotland
15. Sri Lanka
Types of Girl about the Globe – Culture, History, Ocean GatG
Sri Lanka is an island jewel in the Indian Ocean which much to offer. The country’s lush landscapes range from misty tea plantations in the central highlands to pristine beaches along the southern and eastern coasts. See ancient sites such as Sigiriya and its towering rock fortress, and the sacred city of Kandy, home to the Temple of the Tooth Relic.
Sri Lanka’s wildlife sanctuaries, such as Yala National Park, offer a chance to spot elephants, leopards, and plenty of bird species. The train journey from Kandy to Ella provides breathtaking views of rolling hills and tea plantations.
With three thousand odd years of history, eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, and a giant rock for you to explore, Sri Lanka promises Asian mystery, Buddhist culture, and timeless history. It’s definitely a country for the cultural solo and you can even surf here too! Sri Lanka isn’t really a first-timer destination so if you feel a bit apprehensive about travelling here, consider a group tour instead. * Read more: Solo Travel in Sri Lanka
16. Switzerland
Types of Girl about the Globe – Active, Food & Drink, Nature GatG
Although it is more expensive than other countries, you simply cannot beat Switzerland for scenery. Take the train to the top of Europe for snowy peaks, relax around one of the many lakes, or go chocolate shopping in Zurich.
The landscapes are spectacular here. Take the panorama gondola to Mount Pilatus before riding the world’s steepest cogwheel railway en route to Alpnachstad, or hop aboard the Jungfrau Railway to explore the ‘Top of Europe.’ And there are plenty of activities too.
You can go bungy jumping or hand gliding in Interlaken, party at the Street Parade in Zurich, see the ‘Dying Lion of Lucerne’ one of the country’s most famous monuments, or just explore the mountains and lakes. And whilst in Switzerland, don’t forget to try a fondue! * Read more: Solo Travel in Switzerland
17. Taiwan
Types of Girl about the Globe – Culture, Nature, Spiritual & Wellness GatG
Taiwan is a great choice for an Asian destination. I was really surprised by this country and loved my time here. If you love Buddhist culture and temples without the crowds, Tawian is a hidden gem. It’s safe, has lots of nature to hike in and the people are incredibly polite. It’s ideal for vegetarians too!
This country has museums, monuments, water parks, hot springs, and also smaller islands with gorgeous beaches and great scuba diving. There is a big focus on wellness so you’ll find hot springs everywhere.
19. Thailand
Types of Girl about the Globe – Beach, Culture, Party GatG
If you’ve never travelled solo before, Thailand is a wonderful country to do it! The people are incredibly friendly (it’s not called ‘The Land of Smiles’ for nothing) and there are so many travellers here following the same routes that you’ll be looking for those hidden gems to escape the crowds.
The capital, Bangkok is one of Asia’s most exciting and culture shocking cities. The beaches are every cliche under the sun and there are so many to choose from especially along the Andaman Coast but its real magic lies in its Buddhist culture and stunning temples. With dreamy beaches, a cultural north and hedonistic south, Thailand is perfect for every kind of solo. * Read more: Solo Travel in Thailand
20. Uzbekistan
Types of Girl about the Globe – City & Sightseeing, History GatG
If you love history and are intrigued by the Silk Road, Uzbekistan is the country that I recommend to travel to.
Standing in front of one of these enormous mausoleums for the first time is completely awe-inspiring. With more tourist infrastructure than its neighbouring ‘Stans,’ you may not find that many solos here but there are tourists. The fast-speed trains are good, tour guides speak English and the old city of Bukhara feels as though you have stepped back in time and onto a movie set. With entry to the country via eVisa, Uzbekistan is now more accessible than ever.
There are so many monuments to see in the country. The most famous is the Registan in Samarkand but there are plenty of other impressive monuments in the capital. See the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, the final resting place of Timur: the Shah-i-Zinda with the meaning ‘Tomb of the Living King.’ Stay in Old Bukhara and see the Ark, the country’s oldest structure before admiring the Kalyan minaret lit up at night. Visit a silk factory in the west, or if you make it to Khiva, the Tosh-Hovli Palace is a must-see as well as the Pahlavon Mahmud Mausoleum.
Uzbekistan promises: ancient history, mausoleums and (of course) the Silk Road and is one for the Architecture GatG, History GatG, Shopping GatG, and Spiritual GatG. It’s a relatively easy country to explore independently too. * Read more: Uzbekistan Tours and Itineraries
